Super Cub rear drum brake
The 2026 Super Cub C125 stops its rear wheel with a 110 mm drum brake, worked by the right foot pedal. ABS works only on the front disc, so the rear brake is purely mechanical.
Press the pedal
Pressing the pedal swings it about its pivot. Its upper arm moves forward and pulls the brake rod.
The arm turns the cam
The rod pulls the brake arm forward. The arm sits on the same spindle as the cam inside the drum, so the cam turns.
The shoes meet the drum
The turning cam pushes the upper ends of the two shoes apart. Their linings press on the inside of the spinning drum, and friction slows the wheel.
Where the force goes
The shoes pivot on the fixed anchor pin, which passes the braking torque into the brake panel. The swingarm holds the panel, so the force reaches the frame.
Release
When you lift your foot, the return springs pull the shoes back onto the cam and the anchor pin. The cam, arm, rod and pedal go back, and the drum spins freely.
Adjusting for wear
As the linings wear, the pedal travels further before the brake bites. Turning the adjuster nut at the end of the rod takes up the slack and brings back the normal free play, about 20 to 30 mm.
