KALLAX 2x2
This is the finished 77 x 77 x 39 cm unit. Four thick outer panels surround a thin inner cross that makes four cubes. IKEA recommends two people for the assembly.
Unpack the parts
Lay out the seven panels: top, bottom, two sides, the middle shelf and two short dividers. The hardware bag has 14 wooden dowels, 8 long screws, cover caps, wall brackets and an Allen key.
Tap in the dowels
Push the wooden dowels into the pre-drilled holes so that half of each one sticks out. Tap them gently with a hammer if needed.
Build the inner cross
Set the lower divider on the dowels in the bottom panel and lay the middle shelf on top of it. Then stand the upper divider on the shelf. Press each joint until the panels meet with no gap.
Add the sides
Slide each side panel onto the dowels at the ends of the middle shelf and stand it on the bottom panel. The sides fit between the top and bottom panels.
Top panel and screws
Lower the top panel onto the sides and the upper divider. With the Allen key, drive the 8 long screws into the sides: four down through the top and four up through the bottom. Then press the cover caps over the top screw heads.
Anchor to the wall
Screw the two brackets under the back of the top panel and stand the unit against the wall. Fix the brackets with screws and plugs that suit your wall. Never skip this step, because a unit that is not fixed can tip over.
